SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR RECOVERY? GET INTO SERVICE!

A vital part of our personal growth in OA that serves to deepen and enhance our recovery is service. All OA members share a responsibility for the operation of OA. We encourage you to consider being of service to our OASV fellowship by reviewing and stepping up to serve in one of these open positions. Why not check-in with your Higher  Power or speak with your sponsor about getting into service today?

JOIN US ON FEBRUARY 12TH FOR THE “ALL ABOUT THE TENTH STEP” WORKSHOP
Please join us at our next workshop entitled, “All About the Tenth Step” on Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 10am-noon (Pacific time).

All about the Tenth Step Daily Inventory

So what is the Tenth Step?

Step 10: Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

With this Step, we are invited to continue to take personal inventory. But isn’t that what we already did in Step Four, and then shared this searching and fearless inventory with our sponsor or someone we especially trusted, in Step Five? Why do this, yet again?

We begin to take regular personal inventories to help us become more aware of how we now choose to live and act within the world, and how we behave with people around us, abiding by a set of principles: our Twelve Steps. We utilize the Tenth Step to help us identify the times our actions may need to be changed or adjusted, so that we are no longer causing others, or ourselves, any further harm as a result of our compulsive eating. We also want to be able to identify the times our actions have been “right action,” as this helps us begin to form personal values from which our lives may grow and expand.

The Tenth Step also tells us to “promptly admit” when we’re wrong. What if you aren’t certain if you were wrong? Most of us don’t know if we may have “wronged” someone – at least not right away. Through the consistent practice of taking a personal inventory, we become more proficient at figuring out when we’re wrong so that an amends can be promptly made that result in changed actions. We use Step Ten to begin to develop and maintain a continuous awareness of what we’re feeling and thinking, but, even more importantly, what are we doing – what actions are we taking? Are we still in self-will run riot, or are we aligned with the will of our Higher Power and treating ourselves and others with kindness, courtesy, and respect?

SEVENTH TRADITION CONTRIBUTIONS – HELP OASV BECOME SELF-SUPPORTING!
Once our meetings moved from in-person to online in March of 2020 as a consequence of the pandemic, contributions to OASV Intergroup dropped dramatically – by more than 70% – because our typically generous members were uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the technology associated with digital contributions. Let’s work to change this trend, and begin contributing regularly in a manner that is comfortable.

Please consider making a recurring monthly contribution via PayPal to our OASV Intergroup which is now entirely paying for the expenses of a wide number of meetings on Zoom, covering the ongoing costs of our new website, and all the expenses of helping the still struggling compulsive eater to have access to our helpline phone number, free pamphlets/literature, and all the various services that OASV provides. Please consider setting-up a recurring contribution today!

Alternatively, please send a check to “OASV Intergroup” at:
OASV Intergroup
P.O. Box 5603 San Jose,
CA 95150 (USA)

Every little bit helps us carry the message to those in need of our help – and the number of those suffering from compulsive eating has only grown during this pandemic!

WE NEED YOUR STORIES OF HOPE FOR OUR NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE!
Please consider submitting fresh content to our website so that more sufferers with our disease may find us through our blogs, podcasts, meetings, inspiration, prayers, and more! We are seeking anything that is inspirational, or part of your recovery from compulsive eating.

To see what others have submitted, please visit the following OASV web pages:

CALLING ALL SPONSORS!
If you are abstinent and available to sponsor, please indicate your availability by identifying yourself as a sponsor and placing your contact information in the chat at our online meetings, or by sharing your contact information with the group at in-person meetings.

A Sponsor and Sponsee sharing

If you are new to OA and looking for a sponsor, it is not uncommon to ask more than one person to be your sponsor in order to find someone that is available and a good fit for you. Please don’t be shy. And, don’t quit 5 minutes before the miracle!

Keep checking out various OA meetings and keep asking those who “have what you want,” if they are available to sponsor you. The right sponsor will appear!

Want to learn more about sponsorship? Check out our blog entitled, Tool of Sponsorship

LOOKING FOR SUPPORT & INSPIRATION BETWEEN MEETINGS? LISTEN TO A PODCAST!
What is a podcast, you might ask?

A podcast is a collection or series of digital audio files that are made available for downloading or listening via the Internet. Each individual audio recording is known as a podcast episode. The podcasts made available for free on the OASV website are audio recordings of speakers, workshops, and retreats.

We offer a wide variety of excellent podcasts. On these podcasts, OA members share their experience, strength, and hope, bringing our Twelve-Step program of Overeaters Anonymous to life. Available in both English and Spanish, please click here.
