OA Online Big Book Study
Join us, online, every Thursday from 6-7pm (PT) as OA members take turns reading a paragraph or two from the fourth edition of the book Alcoholics Anonymous, then share their experience, strength, and hope as it pertains to that day’s readings.
The book of Alcoholics Anonymous, affectionately known as “The Big Book” by those who adhere to its teachings, is viewed as the definitive textbook for Twelve Step recovery. A.A. founder’s, Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, along with the first 100 members, wrote the Big Book by committee, with drafts of it going back and forth between the New York A.A. group, and the group in Akron, Ohio A.A. Today, Overeaters Anonymous uses this very same book as its primary text for recovery from compulsive eating and compulsive eating behaviors.
Within the book, it states, “We, of Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book.”
Within OA, we know that the contents of this book apply equally well to compulsive eaters, so we rely upon this text as a guide through the Twelve Steps. As a consequence of having used this book and worked the Twelve Steps, we have come to experience freedom from the bondage of our food addiction, and live our lives, happy, joyous, and free.
If you are serious about your recovery, then this meeting is a MUST! The core group that launched this meeting consists of members with decades of recovery (and hundreds of pounds released) who know that the only relief comes from “entire abstinence” (page xxx) and that by working the Twelve Steps we get “a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition” (page 85).
Come grow your spiritual condition with us every Thursday evening. Together, we get better!
