OASV Newsletter: February 2025 – SPECIAL EDITION
The word, “February” is deviced from the Latin word “februa” which means “to cleanse.” This month of the year was named after Februalia – a Roman festival of purification. This month-long festival of purification and atonement took place this time of year, hence our second month of the year being named after it.
I found this bit of history rather interesting, given this is also the month in which OA members around the globe are called to love and serve the fellowship of Overeaters Anonymous and to grow their awareness by reviewing new business items and existing bylaws – designed to serve and support our program of recovery – for the purpose of deciding upon what changes, if any, are necessary to better meet the diverse and evolving needs of OA as a whole.
The Agenda items to be reviewed, discussed, and voted upon refer to New Business Motions and Bylaw Amendments.
CALL TO ACTION FOR INTERESTED MEETING GROUPS – TAKE A GROUP CONSCIENCE!
Your meeting group, if interested and willing to undertake this service task, is invited to conduct a Group Conscience to vote for or against a selection of Agenda items that may be most meaningful to your particular meeting group. Once you have held your special business meeting to take a group conscience, you are then encouraged to email your voting outcome to your OASV Delegate no later than March 1, 2025, so it may be rolled up into the total vote count prior to submission to the WSBC Agenda Questionnaire survey form.
ATTEND THE UPCOMING OASV INTERGOUP MEETING – TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH, 2025
Alternatively, all interested OASV members are encouraged to attend, or to send your respective Intergroup Representative (IR) – and every meeting is strongly encouraged to have one – to the upcoming OASV Intergroup meeting held this Tuesday, Febuary 4th, from 7:15 to 8:45pm (this normally one-hour meeting time has been extended by 30 minutes) to be part of our Agenda items review, discussion, and group conscience voting process.
Our two Delegates will share their summaries, pros, and cons, regarding each Agenda item with the committee for purposes of discussion followed by a group conscience vote.
REVIEW ONE OA MEMBER’S SUMMARIES, PROS, AND CONS
One of the Delegates has prepared a basic summary template (English and Spanish translation) for easier evaluation and voting. It is but one person’s viewpoint on the Agenda items. It is not intended to reflect OA as a whole. For more detailed information, please visit the WSBC web page.
Once the final voting count has been taken and the Agenda Questionnaire has been submitted by the OASV Intergroup Chair (or a designated party) by March 5, 2025, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time, the OASV’s Delegates will then bring their knowledge and awareness of how OASV Intergroup members feel about each Agenda item to the upcoming World Service Business Conference to be held May 4-10, 2025.
