Online or In-person – We are here to support YOU! Overeaters Anonymous Silicon Valley (OASV) cares about you and your recovery journey. We understand that attending an in-person meeting may, at times, prove difficult, if not impossible. This can be during times of injury, illness, immobility, when serving as a around-the-clock caregiver, or during a public health crisis, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic, when shelter-in-place county travel and social distancing restrictions applied. To successfully serve and support our members - and anyone who still suffered with compulsive eating and/or compulsive food behaviors - during the COVID-19 pandemic a number of OASV meetings migrated their traditional in-person meetings to the online world. As a consequence, even after the public health crisis lifted, a number of our local meetings chose to continue as “exclusively online” meetings. Since then, others of our meetings moved to being exclusively in-person meetings once again, with a select few having become a hybrid meeting that leverages the best of both worlds – online and in-person. Guided by Tradition 4 of our Twelve Traditions, all OA meetings are autonomous. Consequently, they have established their own procedures for meeting online. You will find that each meeting honors our primary purpose – to help the still suffering compulsive eater – but that they may do so in different ways, with, perhaps, different opening readings and meeting formats. To learn more about what to expect at an OASV meeting, call us at (408) 940-6278, or visit what exactly is an OA meeting like. Anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively is invited to visit an in-person meeting or to log into any one (or more) of our various OASV online meetings. We hope you will join us as we practice a balanced and joyful life in OA Twelve Step recovery, and hear from others - just like you - who will be sharing their experience, strength, and hope. Safety and Security – We work with you to help ensure both! Out of respect for our member’s personal safety and security in the real and online world, we encourage everyone that attends any OA meeting to be respectful and kind. When attending one of our online meetings, please employ discretion when posting any personal contact information in the public chat forum. Within OA, although we do happily share our personal contact information with one another, we do so only to the level of our own individual comfort. Growing a relationship with our fellow OA members is encouraged for the purposes of unity and our common recovery. We work to respect and honor each individual’s personal boundaries and comfort level. PLEASE NOTE - SOME MEETING ARE AUDIO RECORDED Some meetings choose to audio record all or part of a meeting for playback at a future time. Here at OA Silicon Valley, we will always make an announcement prior to audio recording any portion of a meeting or event. Typically, only the speaker is recorded, and only with their prior permission (a special Release Form <add release form> is made available to them prior to the meeting/event for their review and signature authorization). By accessing and using the information on this website, you agree that you have been notified that a meeting may be recorded. To maintain your anonymity, you may use a fictitious name, or none at all. You may also listen without speaking. Sharing is an individual choice. Although we encourage your participation, we want to ensure we respect and honor your anonymity and personal comfort level. We encourage online meeting attendees to turn on their video, if only upon initial entry. This is solely for the purpose of identifying yourself as a member (or a visitor at an open meeting). If this is not possible (because you are at work, not in a private space, or for your own personal reason), please let the meeting host know you are “only listening” to avoid being erroneously treated as an unwanted meeting bomber or troll. Such unwelcome types tend to keep their video off to hide their identities and disruptive intentions. Be advised that in some cases, your phone number, name, or email address may be visible to others in the meeting if the device you are using to access an online meeting makes such information visible. You are free to rename yourself or to add (or remove) any visible information prior to joining an online OASV meeting. If you want to edit any visible data after entering an online meeting, please notify the meeting host through the chat function if your editing abilities are disabled by that particular meeting’s security options.
