We’re glad you’re here

We know it wasn’t easy for you to come here because we’ve been where you are now.

  • Feeling alone…
  • Feeling frustrated…
  • Feeling isolated…
  • Living with a terrible secret…
  • And in great pain…

Not sure where to turn and feeling horribly ashamed for not being able to control your food, or your weight.

As scary as this might feel right now, we are so glad you are here.

And we want you to know, you are not alone.  We are here to help!

Overeaters Anonymous: Our Primary Purpose

Overeaters Anonymous has a Primary Purpose. Our primary purpose is to abstain from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors and to carry the message of recovery through the Twelve Steps of OA to those who still suffer.

What does this mean?

Simply put, it means that OA is here to freely help people attain abstinence, one day at a time, from compulsive eating, food addiction, and/or disordered eating.

What is Abstinence?

Abstinence is defined as: The action of refraining from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors while working towards or maintaining a healthy body weight.

If you are interested in ordering OA literature to learn more about abstinence, please attend a local in-person meeting where literature is available, or check out the OA online bookstore that carries these titles:

Overeaters Anonymous is here to help!

OA is here to help any individual who wants to stop eating compulsively – the ONLY requirement for OA membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.  If you are still suffering and want to stop eating compulsively, we are here to help you make vital and life-affirming behavioral changes through working the steps with a sponsor of your choice, along with a group of people who share the very same struggles but have found a solution that works.

One of the BEST things about OA is our community-based peer support which provides a uniquely supportive and nonjudgmental network of people (other OA members) who understand the struggles and have discovered a design for living that frees them from the bondage of this terrible struggle! The special bonds that are established and grow among group members adds to the many benefits of working this phenomenal recovery program.
