Passing Along the Message of Hope A speaker meeting, or speaker panel, typically features one or more abstinent members of OA who share their experience, strength, and hope with the OA twelve step program of recovery.
This type of meeting or panel may focus on a particular topic, or it can be the simple sharing of what it was like (before recovery), what happened (that brought them to recovery), and what it’s like now (after having worked our 12 step program of recovery).
Unlike traditional OA meetings, only the guest speaker, or panelists, are provided a time slot for sharing. Members in attendance are invited to listen, rather than share.
It is not uncommon for a speaker meeting, or speaker panel, to be followed by an open question and answer period with a defined time limit. This Q&A may be done either through use of an “Ask It Basket” – with members in attendance submitting their questions on sheets of paper that are collected – or, if this is a virtual event, by posing questions through the chat box.
Many of our Speaker Meetings and Speaker Panels are audio recorded for future reference by our members or newcomers to our program of recovery. They are a great way to find readily available inspiration on tap. Please be sure to check-out one of our podcasts today!
