GET TO KNOW WHO OASV SERVES & HOW WE SERVE THEM

Who We Serve

To better understand who we serve and how we serve those compulsive eaters (like ourselves), we encourage you to visit Get Started to check out what we have to freely offer anyone who struggles with compulsive eating. We are people who restrict food, under eat, over-eat, binge, purge, battle obesity, anorexia, bulimia, food addiction, or who compulsively concern ourselves with our body image, shape, or size, yo-yo diet, compulsively exercise, or who fight with compulsive food behaviors. We believe we all share a common malady that we refer to as compulsive eating.

While there are many normalized, non-disordered eaters (i.e. people who mindfully consume a variety of food when hungry and who are able to stop when full), Overeaters Anonymous Silicon Valley serves those within the general population – and we are many – who have lost control over their eating.

We count ourselves among those who, even if we are of a normal size and shape, have struggled with our weight, disordered eating, body image, and excessive exercise.

Some of us have binged and purged to the point of bulimia, restricted to the point of anorexia, or stuffed ourselves to the point of morbid obesity.

Our common malady cuts across every ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education level, and gender identity. We are the people for whom food has become an obsession of the mind and a burden to our bodies.

How We Serve Them

Regardless of the type of issues we may have with compulsive eating or compulsive eating behaviors, we have a common solution made available to us through working the Twelve Steps of Overeaters Anonymous.

Additionally, we are fortunate to have a fellowship of people that truly “get” us and are willing to help us - through mutual support - to find recovery from our disease of compulsive eating one day at a time.

We help compulsive eaters like ourselves – through meetings, sponsorship, literature, step work, and fellowship – but we also want to provide hope and understanding to the people that love and support someone that suffers with compulsive eating.

For people whose loved ones struggle with compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors, we recommend the following informational web pages: Family & Friends
